Easy Blender Pen Technique For Monochromatic Coloring

This easy blender pen coloring technique has been around forever! However, I have a tendency to get all caught up in the latest trends. Which means, sadly, that I forget about these oldies, but goodies! In the event that this technique is old news to you, I have paired it with some exciting new things from the brand new , 2019 Occasions Catalog! To be honest, I do not know what this blender pen technique is officially called. However, since the technique pulls color from a stamped image, I have dubbed it, “Color Pulling.”

To color pull you will need:

  • A blender pen
  • Water-based dye ink
  • Stamp of your choice
  • Whisper White card stock

Now you are ready to color pull! First, stamp your image on Whisper White card stock. Secondly, use the blender pen to pull color from the stamped image and blend it out to the areas that you would like color to be. That’s it! Easy peasy! Tip: I have found that color pulling works best on a freshly stamped image.

Because the blender pen picks up ink, it will be necessary to clean it. To remove the excess ink from your blender pen, swipe it across scratch paper until it no longer spreads color. Keep in mind that the ink will stain the blender pen. However, the solution in the blender pen will be clear when the excess ink has been removed.

Simple Stamping Can Make You Happy!

Simple stamping eliminates the frustration that can accompany the creation of a more complicated card. For this reason, it’s a good idea to just kick back and go simple.

One way to go simple is to start with Memories & More Cards & Envelopes as this eliminates most of the prep-work! For example, this card features the Happiness Blooms,Memories & More, Cards & Envelopes. In this instance, tone-on-tone stamping is done in Night of Navy ink on the card base using the Bloom By Bloom stamp set. As you can see, this adds dimension and interest to the background.

Plus, you can easily step-it-up a bit and still keep it simple. To do this, just add in the Happiness Blooms Memories & More Card Pack which will help you to easily add in bold, bright, and cheerful accent layers. Since the card pack lists coordinating colors, you can easily choose coordinating inks. To demonstrate, this card features a card from the Happiness Blooms card pack. Lovely Lipstick is a primary coordinating color on the card. For this reason, Lovely Lipstick is used on the Bloom By Bloom flower on the front of the card.

Inspiration for this card came from the featured thinking of you sentiment. Specifically, from that sweet little heart! Consequently, I had to use those gorgeous floating hearts! Those, coupled with the adorable frog made a sweet card. However, adding the umbrella was the cherry on top!

How to create woodsy handmade cards for the holiday season.

Woodsy Handmade Cards For The Holiday Season

Do you love nature-inspired holiday decor with the woodsy elements of evergreens? I do.  I think it’s because the rustic scenery transports us back to a simpler time.  For this reason,  the Winter Woods Bundle has great appeal for the holidays and beyond. Not only that, but Stampin’ Up! designed this set to coordinate with their long-time, most popular ever, stamp set: Lovely as a Tree! In addition, there is also another set designed for this purpose in the 2018-19 Annual Catalog: Rooted in Nature.  Winter Woods is a new release in the 2018 Holiday Catalog that will be available beginning September 5th. How to create this woodsy card for the holiday season

I’ve designed this card to have a woodsy look with a touch of copper elegance for the holiday season. First, I started with the Joyous Noel Specialty Designer Series Paper. This paper has plenty of evergreens and a great color combo to achieve the desired look.

Next, I knew that I wanted only a touch of the Joyous Noel DSP on my card front to establish the color combo, so I used the Stitched Season Framelit Dies to create a frame for my focal point (the 2 largest frames were used). The touch of Joyous Noel DSP also adds a bit of Christmas to the woodsy look.

Third, I created a woodsy scene for the inside of my frame with trees. I placed the large evergreen in the forefront, with the barren trees in the background. I chose to die cut the barren trees in Soft Suede card stock. This adds texture to the Soft Suede background. I stamped the evergreen on Sahara Sand card stock rather than Whisper White.  I then placed the evergreen over the top of the barren trees with Stampin’ Dimensionals to hold them in place.

Fourth, I adhered the Joyous Noel DSP  frame around the trees. This also helps to hold part of the barren trees down on the card.

As a final touch, I created an evergreen swag to place at the bottom of the frame to bring in the look of holiday season. This also adds to the woodsy feel of the card. I layered on the elements of the swag with glue dots. However, liquid glue could also be used.

Lastly, the card front was layered on a Merry Merlot card base.

How To Use Vellum To Create A Frame Overlay With Framelits!

Create a Vellum Frame Overlay with Framelits

Vellum frames are an easy way to overlay a pretty accent to an otherwise one layer card! The translucent nature of vellum allows  images to show through the overlay. Especially when they are paired with bold and vibrant floral images like the ones shown here from the Healing Hugs stamp set. Since it is a translucent paper, it can be tricky to adhere to your card without the adhesive showing.  I have found that All Purpose Liquid Glue applied to the entire piece of the vellum overlay is the best solution. (Watch video below)

The Stitched Season Framelits are perfect for creating pretty frame overlays with vellum. Because the dies include stitching on both the positive and negative images, there is decorative stitching around all the edges of the frame! Whenever colors are retired, there is always some confusion about the status of various products in those colors. We have worked with our vendors to ensure that we have a period of guaranteed stock before the retirement date. This means that even if an ink pad/refill goes on backorder during that guaranteed time, those orders will be fulfilled.

However, after that guarantee date has passed, those products in retiring colors are available while supplies last. Please see the chart below that details this. It also shows how other products with retiring colors will be handled.

Amazing Love Easter Card

Amazing Love Easter Card

I created this Amazing Love Easter Card as a make & take for my Sale-a-bration Open House. For more information about Sale-a-bration, CLICK HERE.

While I enjoy all the fun things that we do to celebrate this holiday (decorating eggs, egg hunts, baskets, etc.), I prefer to have my Easter cards to be more about why we celebrate it in the first place.  With that in mind, I purchased the Hold on to Hope Bundle to have on hand for my cards. Be that as it may, I have to admit that it was never my intention to use three different stamp sets for my card. Ordinarily, I feature one stamp set and occasionally pair it with a greeting set.  However, as I thought about the holiday and what it represents, the song Amazing Love by Chris Tomlin popped into my head. Consequently,  I realized that the Amazing You stamp set was the perfect choice to pair with the Hold on to Hope stamp set to convey the message that I was looking for!

Putting it all together to create the perfect Easter Card

Now that I had inspiration for my Easter card, it was time to work on my layout.  The Crucifixion wasn’t pretty. For this reason, I did not want my card to be ornate, so I chose the Wood Textures paper to use for the cross.  In addition, I wanted to have something that would represent the joy of the resurrection, so I used the rays of light stamp from the Amazing You set with Daffodil Delight and a hint of Wink of Stella. Furthermore, I wanted the purple robe to be represented as well so I chose the Fresh Fig ribbon.  As the elements of the card came together, the next challenge was how I was going to incorporate the word, love.  I finally settled on the sentiment, “I just love you”, from Petal Palette.  For the tutorial, complete with measurements, directions, and supply list, CLICK HERE.

5 Things to Know About the Stamparatus Video!

OKAY. I’VE GOTTA HAVE ONE. HOW DO I GET IN LINE?

Even with the updated reservation process, there is a line! Reserving your Stamparatus is a FIFO! (First order in, first order out!) The first reservation window was while supplies last. For the second reservation window, we are not limiting the maximum number of reservations we will accept. The reservation window will stay open from December 5-30. Here is some additional information regarding the 2nd (and last) reservation window:

  •  For the second reservation window, the limit is 1 tool per demonstrator and 1 tool per customer.
  • If you participated in the first reservation window, you may also participate in the second reservation window.
  • In order to reserve your Stamparatus, you are required to provide your credit card information.
  • Credit cards will not be charged until the Stamparatus ships from our facility. When you close your order, be sure to verify that your credit card and shipping information is correct.
  • Product dimensions are 8″ x 8″ x 7/8″.
  • Shipping begins March 19, 2018. Depending on the number of reservations we receive, we may stagger available-to-ship dates. You will receive additional communication once you place your reservation.
  • If you don’t get your Stamparatus reserved now – you will have to wait until June 2018 when the new Annual Catalog goes live.

The sales period for the 2017 holiday catalog ends on January 2nd. However, that doesn’t mean you have to say goodbye just yet!

We’re carrying over some of the catalog’s most popular items. Because of this, items from the 2017 holiday catalog carryover list will be available until May 31, 2018.  (After this date, items will either appear in the 2018–2019 annual catalog or be retired.)
