No Ordinary Moments With High Tide

Handmade card created with High Tide shared by Darla Olson at Inkheaven
No Ordinary Moment

This beautiful swap card was created by fellow demo, Anita Watson. I like the blue on blue with the neutral tones, it has a very calming effect. Even the light shining out looks a little subdued.

I have loved lighthouses for a long time. I had my living room decorated with them for awhile. I still have my favorites in the family room.

A couple of years ago we were able to visit the Outer Banks and see most of the lighthouses there. It was great fun! The sentiments in this stamp set are encouraging and uplifting, which we need a lot of in today’s world.

Anita did not provide a supplies used list with her swap card; and that’s okay. Sometimes, it is good just to look and enjoy!

For your convenience, I have provided an image of the High Tide stamp set below and clicking it will take you to my 24/7 online store where you can be a happy Sale-A-Bration shopper (spend $50 and you get to pick out a freebie!) Hey, Chick! Look At This Plume!

Handmade card created using Hey, Chick, Nailed It, Urban Underground shared by Darla Olson at Inkheaven
Hey, Chick! Look at this plume!

Look at that plume! Isn’t it a hoot! I think this is my favorite chick!

Stampin’ Up! really did an outstanding job with product coordination this time around. When I saw the Urban Underground Suite and the Hey, Chick Sale-A-Bration set, my mind clicked the two together immediately! (I think I already shared how much I really want to have urban chickens!) Here’s a bullet list for you!

  • The hexagon embossing folder creates the perfect illusion of chicken wire. The folder can be inked up and used as a stamp, or you can do what I did here and ink it up a little more and emboss it for texture and a little more color.
  • The hexagon die from the builder framelits made a great frame for the chick and provides coordination with the background.
  • The little smileys from, Nailed It, are make a nice accent for the, “have a happy day!” sentiment!
  • The “sentiment die” from the Builder Framelits is a perfect fit for the sentiment from Hey, Chick.
  • The Urban Underground Specialty Designer Paper had a fantastic color combo and this Delightful Dijon piece with the x’s was perfect. It made me think of all the cuts I’ve gotten from the top of chicken wire (okay, not the happiest of thoughts, but I turned it into a good thing!)

I used the watercolor pencils to color in the plume, blending two colors together to get the dijon color and lighter highlights. Here’s a tip: just because they are called Watercolor Pencils does not mean that you have to watercolor with them! This card idea came together so well that I am busting my buttons!

Dragonfly Dreams Card Meets Tie-Dyed

Handmade card created with Dragonfly Dreams by Darla Olson at Inkheaven
Dragonfly Dreams

I love dragonflies. I have been fascinated with them since childhood. Between their unique flying ability and the iridescent shimmer of their wings in the sunshine they are intriguing and dreamy!

This card features Dragonfly Dreams, but the real secret is the Tie-Dyed background. I wanted to catch the shimmer of sunlight for a background and I had purchased Tie Dyed expressly for it’s capability to produce unique backgrounds, so I pulled it out for this card and got to playing! I originally created this card for my hubby’s birthday, but it was so much fun that I decided to do more for a swap. Each card turned out with a unique background.

I used a Watercolor Technique for the background. It is one of my favorite techniques for unique backgrounds! I shared a FB Live video tutorial for this technique here. This card will be in my Dragonfly Dreams class later this year and I am so excited to share it with you in class.

Every once in awhile I like to write. Usually, it’s a way to express whatever flood of emotions I am feeling. I wrote this in 2004 when my uncle passed away. Since it shares some of my feelings on dragonflies, I thought I would share it with you today.

Memories…
Of childhood
Hot summer days
Dragonflies flitting, buzzing
Wings shimmering in the sun
Fascinated, awed, slightly afraid
Following, but not too close
Happy, warm, carefree

Memories…
Like dragonflies
Flitting, buzzing in my mind
Shimmering in my heart
Fascinated, awed,
By the clarity of yesteryear,
I follow close
Happiness and warmth
Comfort me in my sorrow

Love Sparkes

Isn’t this card beautiful? It has a soft, subdued sparkle! This is also a swap card created by fellow demo, Toni Tessler. That means I had a double-fun, happy-mail, day! There is nothing quite like finding gorgeous things in your mail box; don’t you agree?

Toni did not provide a list of supplies used with her swap card so I am uncertain of what she used for her banner (I am sharing my best guess!) However, for your convenience, I have provided a list of most of the supplies she used creating this awesome card below. Hey, Chick! Whatcha Doin’ in the Hen House?

Handmade card created with Hey, Chick shared by Darla Olson @inkheaven
Hey, Chick! Whatcha Doin’ in the Hen House?

This card is eye-popping! Lucky me to find it in my mailbox; talk about happy mail! This swap card was created by fellow demo, Toni Tessler. As much as I love this set, I have to admit that I have been struggling with it a bit. It may be that I am not much of a color-er when it comes to my own stamping! Or, it just may be excitement overload! I say that because I have so many things that I want to play with and show you! To be truthful, these are the perfect stamps for the non-color-er. They just don’t demand a lot of coloring! Here is what I love:

  • The touch of red that really makes it pop – it’s perfect!
  • The use of the Hardwood Background Stamp (I have it and didn’t even think to use it)
  • The use of Gorgeous Grunge for the ground underneath the chicken
  • The little bit of burlap ribbon
This card will be getting replicated by me a few times! I love a card that I can CASE! Toni did not provide a list of supplies used with her swap card so I am uncertain of what she used to color her fowl. However, for your convenience, I have provided a list of most of the supplies she used creating this awesome card below. Happy Valentine’s Day With a Swoosh Full of Hearts

Valentine's Day Card created with Sealed With Love shared by Darla Olson at Inkheaven
A Swoosh Full of Hearts

If you like easy, fun techniques that give an interesting look to your handmade cards, then you will love creating this card using this simple and fun technique. No two cards will look exactly the same!

The technique I used was to just stamp directly on to my embossing folder. I stamped on my folder just like I would if I were stamping on card stock. I even stamped off with the same inking a few times to get the different variations and shades of ink. I love the end result! It makes the hearts look like they are being blown in with a swoosh!

I used the new Sending Love Bundle and Falling Petals embossing folder to create this fun card! I accented the die-cut heart with a metallic enamel shape (heart).

You will be able to order these fun items starting tomorrow! Don’t delay in ordering your Valentine additions…February 14th will swoosh right in before we know it!
