Did you know that real, unprocessed honey does not spoil or go bad? Many people find it rather surprising that bacteria cannot grow in honey because all things being equal, bacteria loves sugar. The unique chemical composition of low water content and relatively high acidic level in honey creates a low pH (3.2-4.5) environment that makes it very unfavorable for bacteria or other micro-organisms to grow.
Honey naturally contains 18 amino acids, plus small amounts of a many vitamins and minerals. The old wives’ tales we hear are actually often based in truth, as honey has been used in folk medicine for thousands of years. Not only can honey soothe and lubricate a sore throat, but because of its nutrient-rich profile, it has been used internally and externally for a variety of other health benefits!
I have some customers/friends who are honeycomb sweet in my life; Kay is one of them! She sent this card to me recently with payment for her order. Her card is absolutely stunning!

There is so much more to stamping than creating cards. Stamping also creates some amazing friendships! I have customers who are so much more than customers. I value their friendship first; appreciate their business second! I recently did a full-time stint at a local acupuncture clinic and sadly, it interfered with some regularly scheduled stampin’ time with friends. Much to my surprise and delight, Joy popped into the clinic with some cards for me! It was such a bright spot in my day and put a lighter step in my feet! This is one of the cards she made and gave me.

The Fourth of July commemorates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence by delegates from the 13 colonies in 1776. This most important American national holiday is traditionally observed with parades, band concerts, picnics, and fireworks. Writing in July 1776 from Philadelphia, John Adams related to his wife, Abigail: “Yesterday the greatest Question was decided, which ever was debated in America, and a greater, perhaps, never was or will be decided among Men. A Resolution was passed without one dissenting Colony ‘that these united Colonies, are, and of right ought to be free and independent States, and as such, they have, and of Right ought to have full Power to make War, conclude Peace, establish Commerce, and to do all the other Acts and Things, which other States might rightfully do…’ This . . . Day . . . will be the most memorable Epocha, in the History of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated, by succeeding Generations, as the great anniversary Festival . . . “ This card is an idea I’ve been mulling over in my mind for about a week now! I had this idea to use Dazzling Details with the Resist Technique to see how it would work; I think my little experiment turned out pretty good! The inspiration came as I was thinking about a 4th of July card and what I had available as a current stamp set to work with. None of the sets had anything to do with the 4th of July…although I do have some retired sets that are. So, what to do? As I looked at my new inventory of stamp sets…I came across the set, Too Kind and I saw fireworks, literally! lol! So this set took its first adventure “out of the box” (pun intended).
I used the flowers to stamp my fireworks on Whisper White card stock and then I covered them with Dazzling Details (last night just before I hopped into bed as they needed plenty of time to dry!) This morning I took my brayer and inked it up in Smoky Slate and rolled over it a few times. Then…to give it a little more depth…I inked it up in Midnight Muse and rolled over it again. Next time I might try sponging the second color so I have a little more control over where it goes. The glitter in the Dazzling Diamonds does take on a little of the color of the ink rolled over it…but in this case it added to the effect…so I was happy with it! I pulled out an old retired star punch to anchor my greeting on the card…it seemed the perfect fit! Happy Independence Day! Have fun celebrating and stay safe!!!

One of the reasons Mosaic Madness is so easy to work with; it is all about creating patterns! Even if you have not studied art: you have been surrounded by patterns whether you are consciously aware of them or not! Nature is full of patterns. If you have trouble in your designs, just go outside and study nature for awhile. You will find plenty of patterns to duplicate in your artwork! Snowflakes have patterns, leaves have patterns, hills have patterns, etc. Have you ever looked at a fern? While some of these patterns may be challenging to recreate in our artwork; mathematics is often referred to as the science of pattern. In composition there are several rules based on mathematics. One of them is the Rule of Odds. Wikipedia defines the rule: “The “rule of odds” states that by framingthe object of interest with an even number of surrounding objects, it becomes more comforting to the eye, thus creates a feeling of ease and pleasure. It is based on the assumption that humans tend to find visual images that reflect their own preferences/wishes in life more pleasing and attractive.
The “rule of odds” suggests that an odd number of subjects in an image is more interesting than an even number. Thus if you have more than one subject in your picture, the suggestion is to choose an arrangement with at least three subjects. An even number of subjects produces symmetries in the image, which can appear less natural for a naturalistic, informal composition.
An image of a person surrounded/framed by two other persons, for instance, where the person in the center is the object of interest in that image/artwork, is more likely to be perceived as friendly and comforting by the viewer, than an image of a single person with no significant surroundings.”
Do you see the Rule of Odds in this card? I took a single rhinestone and surrounded it with an even number of images from the Mosaic Madness stamp set. My color combo was taken from the Color Coach. It is an easy pattern to use with this set; with endless possibilities.

“Framing provides a point of focus.”When you frame an object or a scene, you are bringing attention to it by removing all distracting clutter around it so that there is nowhere else to look but at the point of interest. There are several advantages of using the framing technique:
It provides depth and perspective
It leads our eyes to the subject
It gives a sense of mystery and intrigue
It provides context
I used the Window Framelits to frame the stamped image from Mosaic Madness stamp set. Framelits are an easy way to frame images for added interest to your cards!

“Who let the genie out of the bottle?” In old Arabian stories, a genie was a magic spirit that would do whatever the person who controlled it wanted. I love all things romantic and fanciful that push the boundaries of the imagination into the real world. Genies and flying carpets may never enter into the real world but there have been those who have dreamed and asked, “Why not?” Take flying for instance; if someone had not dreamed and asked why not, we would still be earth bound! In American context, letting the genie out of the bottle is not a good thing. I prefer the old Arabian stories myself. I say go ahead and let your artful genie out of the bottle! Dream and ask why not; the more you expand your artful boundaries, the more fun it will be! Supplies used on this card are listed below. Insufficient postage became an increasing problem with the advent of postage stamps and people making their own decisions about the amount to pay. Several different methods were used to try to collect the amount due from the recipient with France being the first to issue official postage due stamps. This set, Postage Due is a beautiful set reflecting the creation and advent of postage due stamps! Luckily, I didn’t have to pay any postage due to receive this wonderful card from Ronda. It looks complicated, but is very simple. My kind of card! A little background stamping, tone on tone, a little background paper, a little ribbon, a couple of stamped images cut out with framelits all layered together to create this striking card!

“Forget Calgon; take a Flower Petal Bath” I have discovered a deliciously relaxing bath soak recipe that I just love. Normally, I am not a bath person…but this bath soak gets me into the tub! It soothes sore muscles, muscle tension, and headache. Plus, it smells wonderful! I love the soak so much that I wanted to share it with some friends. Canning jar crafts are all the rage right now so I ordered some pretty quilted ones. When I saw the Bloomin’ Bouquet kit from Stampin’ Up! I knew immediately that I was going to use it to “dress” them up! Kit’s make things easier and since I was making 12 of these jars the kit was perfect. Please note that I also used background papers, ribbons, bakers twine, jewels, etc. that were not in the kit. I used the kit to make the flowers for the top of the jars, only. The flowers can be easily duplicated with some background papers, buttons, and a flower punch using the video to guide you for assembly. I used the kit because it was convenient! The bath soak recipe is listed below the video.

“Congrats to the graduate!” I’ve had a few graduations this year. I do have a couple of graduation sets…that are from way back; which also means they are way back in my storage closet! lol! So, I decided to pass on the card and make up these adorable Grad Caps to say congrats and hold a little gift! These were pretty easy and quick to throw together. I have been unable to throw away the little containers that our buttons, brads, and other accessories come in so I have quite a stash of them. I think that I am set for all future graduations! They were the perfect size. I just covered them in basic black card stock on the outside and then I made a “mortar board” with a 3 1/2″ square of basic black card stock to turn it into a cap and attached a tassel with a brad. (The gold cord is usually a seasonal item but I had some left from the holidays.) I used a fork to make the tassel. The inside I stamped with school colors and congrats. I turned a bill into a diploma (what grad isn’t going to love a little cash?) and placed it inside. Supplies used to make this project are listed below.
