“It is a Christmas crossover card!”

“The wreath was hung on the door with care in the hopes that St. Nicholas would soon be there.”

Yes, I took a slight liberty with, “Twas the night before Christmas,” and instead of stockings and chimneys I went with wreaths and doors! “Christmas countdown; digital or paper?”

This is a 3×3 gift card that I received in a convention swap. I do not have the creator’s info…but if it is yours and would like credit…just let me know!

I just realized that we only have 25 more days until Christmas! Thanksgiving was late this year and the implications of that have just now hit me! While I love playing in the digital world (think mobile apps, software, etc.) I am still a big fan of retaining old traditions like handmade with love and paper, etc.

“A card of legends.”

The Cardinal is called the “Christmas Bird” for its spectacular red color. Legend says that the Cardinal is the symbol of beauty and warmth of the holiday season. A glimpse of this brilliant bird brings cheer, hope and inspiration on a gray, cold, snowy, wintry day. This is nature’s reminder for us to focus on our faith; the Cardinal’s scarlet plumage represents the blood of Christ shed for the redemption of mankind. This lovely swap card created by Olive Barnes is a wonderful representation of the legend on paper.

“Christmas came from humble beginnings.”

I love the simplicity of this Christmas card! It reminds me of the humble origins of Christmas. New parents, a babe in a manger, lowly shepherds, and three wise kings who brought gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh; gifts that I am sure provided a means to take of a brand new baby in a strange land far away from home. This image is a far cry of the glitz, glimmer, and excess of Christmas today. While I love holiday decor and I put up my fair share of it, there are times I find myself longing for stark simplicity. While I find it hard to verbally convey the simplicity that I yearn for – this convention swap (creative origins unknown) depicts it perfectly!

“A 3×3 makes a perfect place card.”

This simple little 3×3 card is another convention swap of unknown creative origins! I think it would make a perfect place card!  I look at this card and think how neat it would be to have one at each place setting with a short handwritten note describing why you are thankful for that person. It would even be fun to have this at each place setting blank inside with a pen or pencil and have each person write about why they are thankful for person on their right and then give it to them. What a wonderful Thanksgiving tradition that would be!

I love this quote, and the simplicity of this card! This time of year people are doing daily posts to social media of all the things they are thankful for. I am thankful that we have a day set aside to help us focus on being thankful and full of gratitude. Life has a way of shattering our focus into millions of piercing little shards and filling us with anxiety. Gratitude puts everything back into focus. I am also thankful for all of our Veterans we owe them a great debt that gratitude can never repay. I have been giving a lot of thought to gratitude lately. Thanksgiving is almost here. We actually will be celebrating it together as a family this weekend. My youngest son is home on leave and his leave is over on the 17th. We have adapted holiday celebrations through a couple of deployments and even though he won’t be here on the holiday, he will be stateside so we are thankful for that. Our family is very blessed!

“I’m batty about the masking tape technique!”

Okay, maybe that is a little cheesey! But, I have this one last Halloween convention swap that I wanted to share; especially since it uses the masking tape technique! This card has no identification on it as to the creator, so if someone claims it, I’ll give credit! Back to the masking tape technique…

The masking tape technique is great for creating interesting backgrounds plus it is exceptionally easy to do. Essentially all you need is a role of blue painters masking tape! Once you have your color combo chosen ink up the painters tape and apply it to your card, then remove it! Splitcoast Stampers has a great tutorial (click here).
