Christmas Baubles

Expressions Thinlits

According to Wiki the first decorated trees were adorned with apples, strings of popcorn, white candy canes and pastries in the shapes of stars, hearts and flowers. I think I like that old tradition! Glass baubles were first made in Germany, by Hans Greiner who produced garlands of glass beads similar to the popcorn strands and tin figures that could be hung on trees. The popularity of these decorations grew into the production of glass figures made by highly skilled artisans with
clay molds. Now, unfortunately, they are mostly mass produced. While mass production has its positives, it saddens me that so much is mass produced and the skills of artisans and their handmade craft is does not seem to have much value placed on it. My tree has a mixture of mass produced baubles and handmade ornaments; I don’t want my Christmas to be entirely mass produced!
