Expressions of sympathy can be tricky, sometimes. Loss and death make all of us feel vulnerable amidst our empathy. A wave of different emotions can sweep over us based on our own experiences and beliefs. Our desire is to reach out and comfort people and express our sympathy. Sometimes we know the deceased but we do not know those who are mourning them very well. Sometimes we know those who mourn more than those who are mourned. Relationships are intimate which means many things are private. Beliefs and values may not be apparent. While we may believe the deceased is in a better place, the mourner may not share that belief. Maybe the mourner’s belief system is in turmoil as a result of their recent loss. A simple sincere line expressing your sympathy regarding their loss is always appropriate. If you knew the deceased and are comfortable sharing a memory with those that mourn, then do. Everyone likes to be remembered. Even if, for some reason, time has passed and you missed sending a note or card at the time of loss, it is never to late to offer sympathy and comfort. At the time of loss many people are there to offer their sympathy while the loss is fresh and new, but for the mourner, the loss continues. Birthdays, holidays, special occasions, etcetera bring the loss to the forefront again. It can be very comforting to know that someone has not forgotten that you are still missing your loved one.

The most snow since the winter of 1962. The coldest (most days below zero) winter since 1978. Negative, nasty talk; don’t you think? My frontal lobes have locked on to March 20th (the first day of Spring) with the ferocious hope of warmer, snowless days! Tip: Create New Shapes with Triangles
Paper piecing makes for a fun way to create a beautiful background. For example, take the Triangle punch (#133375) and the Kaleidoscope Designer Series Paper (#132995) and punch out lots of triangles in different patterns and colors. Adhere them to a piece of Whisper White card stock (#100730) that has been cut to your desired size. Cover the whole piece – letting parts of triangles hang over the edge of the card stock where needed. Trim off the excess once it is dry. Adhere to your card, add a greeting, and you’re done!

This convention swap by an unknown creator is so very pretty! (If this is your creation and you would like credit; let me know and I will update this blog post!) I love the soft color combo and masking tape technique lightly covered with a shimmer spray. Soft and elegant! The Tea Shoppe set is no longer available…however…you can get it as a digital download…which is just as good for this card!

I love this quilted look! This fun card is another convention swap by an unknown creator! (If it is your creation just let me know and I will update my blog post to give you credit!) This Designer Series Paper is a favorite of mine and it is a great pattern for this technique! The quilted look just does not show up in the photo as well as it does in “real life.” I need to do this technique in a class yet so you can see just how easy it is!

This was my first creation with my new toys from Celebrate the Everyday Occasions Catalog and Sale-a-bration! I just took the color combo from the DSP. Very easy card with pretty colors. I love the new Baker’s Twine. It is almost like a yarn. Much easier to work with and shows up better. I have a few more creations that I need to take photos of. I put away my photo lightbox in preparation for my Sale-a-bration Open House and all of my other cards were created somewhere in between! The weather here has been very Winter. Too Winter. I feel like Shackleton every time I leave the house! But, it is great weather to hole up in your stamping room and just have fun! I had a great time creating about a dozen cards or so for my Open House and I can’t wait to share them with you!

This is an awesome card for all the racing fans out there! Matchbox Cars and Hotwheels were very popular at our house! We had a very limited budget when our boys were little so their incentives were new Matchbox Cars or Hotwheels. Grandpa continued the tradition for a while with our grandsons. Babies, birthdays, and zoos, oh my! I have to admit, the Zoo Babies set makes really cute kids cards! I received this adorable birthday card in a convention swap from Christine Josti. I love the textured “grass” element! Although we now have the fringe scissors and that would be a fun substitute! I like how she ties the color combo together with the Happy Birthday banner and the Baker’s Twine. I think when I make my version of this card that I will leave off the designer series paper and have a little more white space, especially since I will probably use the fringe scissors which will make a little more grass. My poor sheep has an alligator nipping at his heels!
