Why Inkheaven?

Faith and Creativity as a Foundation for Inkheaven

Hi! I’m Darla Olson, the creator of inkheaven (you can read more about me here). I chose the name of inkheaven for two reasons:

  • My faith is a part of who I am and I want it to be a part of what I do, and
  • Creating and color makes me happy.

I believe that our creator puts in each of us the ability to create. Why do I believe this? Because of this portion of scripture:

“Them hath he filled with wisdom of heart, to work all manner of work, of the engraver, and of the cunning workman, and of the embroiderer, in blue, and in purple, in scarlet, and in fine linen, and of the weaver, even of them that do any work, and of those that devise cunning work.”(Exodus 35:35 KJV) The italics emphasis in this scripture is mine.

Unfortunately,  many of us feel that because we can’t do the aforementioned things called out by name (engraver, embroiderer, weaver, etc), that we aren’t creative. This is just not true! The scripture also mentions,  “all manner of work and them that do any work.” It took everyone’s creative contribution to complete the tabernacle.

I also believe that each of us is a temple of God and that, as such, we need to encourage and build up each other. The scripture instructs us this way, “Therefore encourage and  comfort one another and build up one another, just as you are doing.” (I Thessalonians 5:11 AMP)

Because of this, creating and encouragement are two things that I am passionate about and I believe that they are connected. A basic card is easy to create and is the perfect place for a handwritten note of encouragement to help us build each other up!

Creativity and Community at Inkheaven

Since I am passionate about creativity and encouragement, I love to bring people together to create in community. I watch paper-crafters of all skill levels share supplies and help each other. In addition, I hear them offer words of praise and encouragement to each other. My favorite part of these events is the sharing, laughter, and learning that takes place.

What is my purpose here at inkheaven?

My purpose here at inkheaven is to help you to discover and use the ‘wisdom of heart’ as a paper-crafter that He has placed in you.  It is when we use our gifts, and pursue our purpose, that happiness (or joy, if you prefer) follows!
