Dragonfly Dreams Card Meets Tie-Dyed

Handmade card created with Dragonfly Dreams by Darla Olson at Inkheaven
Dragonfly Dreams

I love dragonflies. I have been fascinated with them since childhood. Between their unique flying ability and the iridescent shimmer of their wings in the sunshine they are intriguing and dreamy!

This card features Dragonfly Dreams, but the real secret is the Tie-Dyed background. I wanted to catch the shimmer of sunlight for a background and I had purchased Tie Dyed expressly for it’s capability to produce unique backgrounds, so I pulled it out for this card and got to playing! I originally created this card for my hubby’s birthday, but it was so much fun that I decided to do more for a swap. Each card turned out with a unique background.

I used a Watercolor Technique for the background. It is one of my favorite techniques for unique backgrounds! I shared a FB Live video tutorial for this technique here. This card will be in my Dragonfly Dreams class later this year and I am so excited to share it with you in class.

Every once in awhile I like to write. Usually, it’s a way to express whatever flood of emotions I am feeling. I wrote this in 2004 when my uncle passed away. Since it shares some of my feelings on dragonflies, I thought I would share it with you today.

Memories…
Of childhood
Hot summer days
Dragonflies flitting, buzzing
Wings shimmering in the sun
Fascinated, awed, slightly afraid
Following, but not too close
Happy, warm, carefree

Memories…
Like dragonflies
Flitting, buzzing in my mind
Shimmering in my heart
Fascinated, awed,
By the clarity of yesteryear,
I follow close
Happiness and warmth
Comfort me in my sorrow

Happy Valentine’s Day With a Swoosh Full of Hearts

Valentine's Day Card created with Sealed With Love shared by Darla Olson at Inkheaven
A Swoosh Full of Hearts

If you like easy, fun techniques that give an interesting look to your handmade cards, then you will love creating this card using this simple and fun technique. No two cards will look exactly the same!

The technique I used was to just stamp directly on to my embossing folder. I stamped on my folder just like I would if I were stamping on card stock. I even stamped off with the same inking a few times to get the different variations and shades of ink. I love the end result! It makes the hearts look like they are being blown in with a swoosh!

I used the new Sending Love Bundle and Falling Petals embossing folder to create this fun card! I accented the die-cut heart with a metallic enamel shape (heart).

You will be able to order these fun items starting tomorrow! Don’t delay in ordering your Valentine additions…February 14th will swoosh right in before we know it! Technique Wow With Cable Knit Dynamic Folder

Technique Wow With Cable Knit Dynamic Folder @ Inkheaven

This swap card was jaw-dropping! It was created by fellow demonstrator, Angie Brailsford using the, Ink Direct-to-Folder Technique. This made the texture in the Cable Knit Folder stand out in an amazing way!

I have to confess, I have not yet tried this technique with this folder, but it is on my radar! I will be sure to share a video with you when I get it accomplished!

Meanwhile, if you try this amazing technique before I do, I would love to see your creation, or hear your tips!

If you are not familiar with the Cable Knit Folder here is a video that demonstrates how to use it:

For your convenience, here is a list of most of the products that she used to create this amazing card. Tin of Tags is on the retired list and must be ordered by December 21st to guarantee availability. After that, availability is only while supplies last! Thanks For Lifting Me Up!

This is the 4th installment of my On Stage Display Stamper Samples.

This was a fun card to create; and that is saying something because I rarely do embossing anymore! I probably won’t be mass producing this one, but die embossing will be a fun little technique to pull out of my pocket every once in awhile! I love the texture that this technique gives to the hot air balloon.

I will be doing an online class for this technique sometime next year!

Background Watercolor Video Tutorial With Floral Phrases

This card was my absolute favorite of the three cards we did in my Floral Boutique Suite classes. The soft water-colored background is stunning and very easy to do! I demonstrated this technique on FB Live and if you watch it all the way to the end there is also a little tip for getting more shimmer with the clear Wink of Stella. You watch the video here:

Direct-to-Paper Technique With Ombre

I love that we now have a few Ombre ink pads. They remind me of the rainbow pads that we used to have years ago. While some of them were indeed more colorful, like rainbows; some of them were Ombre although they weren’t referred to as such.

This ink-direct-to-paper technique was one of my favorite ways to use them back then; and it probably will still be as I am one of “those people” who doesn’t really care much for coloring. I enjoy coloring…in small doses.

Here is a line up of this card created in all the gorgeous ombre colors:

Normally, I am a Calypso Coral girl all the way – but with this technique and card- Bermuda Bay is my fave! For a quick video with tips on how to do this technique, hop on over to my Facebook Page. I did a short and sweet FB Live video for you.

Helping Me Grow Shirt Fold Card

This pretty card is a swap created by fellow demonstrator, Kay Capps. It has a unique look with out too much effort; my kind of card! (I claim to be a lazy stamper!) This is called a shirt fold card and is fairly simple and straightforward:

  • Cut your designer series paper down the center
  • Fold back the each side to create the “collar”
Easy, right? Now go make one!
For your convenience I have listed most of the supplies that Kay used in creating her card. Clicking any of the images below will take you to my 24/7 online store where you may purchase the supplies you need to create your own shirt fold card. Thank you so much for stopping by!

Going Retro With the Love Bug!

Beautiful Ride Stamp Set by Stampin' Up!
Back to the 60’s!

This fun retro throw back swap card was created by fellow demonstrator, Anita Watson.

Yeah, I grew up in the 60’s and 70’s so Anita’s card makes me just a little nostalgic. It was an interesting time; hippies, tie-die, flower power, peace signs, rock and roll, “The Love Bug,” and so much more!

I love how she gave the bug a “tie-die.” To do this she used what is called the Baby Wipe Technique. This technique is very easy, all you do is take a few baby wipes and turn them into an ink pad of sorts! Re-inkers are used to randomly create a pattern of ink on the baby wipes after which you lay your card stock over the top (or vice-versa) and pick up the “tie-die” color from the baby wipe!

Anita picked her colors from the designer series paper (this particular paper was a Sale-a-bration reward so it is no longer available but any colorful, flowered paper will do, as long as it is Stampin’ Up!, of course!) Just follow her lead and use the colors from whatever designer series paper you use!

It is hard to see in the photo but the entire bug has a metallic flake in the paint job thanks to our awesome Wink of Stella pen! Plus, the windows have window sheets behind them giving them a real look of glass!

For your convenience, I have listed most of the supplies that Anita used in creating her card below. This fun, retro style stamp set called, Beautiful Ride is on the retired list and will be leaving us soon so don’t wait – click any of the images below to be taken to my 24/7 online store and get yours now before they are gone for good! The Journey Begins…

Another Sky is the Limit swap card that I have fallen in love with! And it came at an appropriate time! I have a new journey beginning here in Le Mars, Iowa today! I am participating in a huge EXPO here in town this weekend to get myself known in the community! This neat card was created by fellow demonstrator, Olive Barnes. Not only is it a great looking card but it reminded me of this technique we did way back in the day with all the sports cards that I did when I had teenage boys at home. It’s a great technique for showing movement and it is easy to do. Just a little lift and move and repeated stamping of the image without reinking the stamp; that’s all there is to it! Next week when the expo is over I am hoping to get my Adobe Photoshop set up on my computer as part of the restoring process. Trying to crop and watermark on my phone is doable but challenging on such a small screen! There are only 10 more days left to get your $50 Sale-A-Bration order in to get this fantastic Sky is the Limit set for FREE! Click the Shop Now tab above to go to my 24/7 online store and get it done today! Thanks so much for stopping by!

Masking Technique Video
