No Carve Pumpkins!

Do it yourself no carve pumpkins

“No carve pumpkins in less than 10 minutes!”

I love decorating in the Fall. I think it has to do with all the warm bursts of color in all the Fall decor and all the cute Halloween stuff. I’m not much into scary – but I do love cute! Pumpkins add stylish, creative and fun touches to Fall decorating. Some folks carve some really creative Jack-o-lanterns! I remember loving the pumpkin carving process when I was a kid. And I remember loving the process with my kids. I also remember having fun doing it with my grand kids when they lived close. Carving them by myself? Not.so.slimey.much. So, it really wasn’t the pumpkin carving as much as it was time spent doing something with my family that made the happy memory! Last year, just for fun, my pumpkins were canned…literally! lol! This year I purchased a couple of small pumpkins and contemplated what to do with them. I finally decided on giving them faces with our Glimmer brads. This was easy and fun! And…it took less than 10 minutes! I used a retired ribbon; but any green ribbon will do! I considered the burlap ribbon since burlap is so popular right now. However, these are my “outdoor” pumpkins and I didn’t think the burlap would be seen from the street as well. My glimmer brads will be able to be reused, too. No waste! I used the paper piercing and a small hammer to make the holes and then just popped the brads right into the holes! It was just too easy and no mess! And they are cute!
Here is a pic of my “canned pumpkins!”

Still Doing Dahlias

Symbolic meanings of Dahlias

“Still doing Dahlias.”

Another Regarding Dahlias convention swap to share with you! This swap was created by Bonnie Jaskie. I have dubbed this color combo as interesting as I am undecided as to whether or not I like the color combo! I keep being drawn to the card though so I am leaning towards “like.” Do you ever have this happen to you, or am I the only one? Even if you don’t like the color combo the layout itself is wonderful and easy enough to replicate for a fantastic “thank you” card! Did you know that Dahlias have a symbolic meaning from the Victorian era ? When given as a gift, the dahlia flower expresses sentiments of dignity and elegance. It also symbolizes commitment and a bond that lasts forever and is still used in flower arrangements to celebrate love and marriage. Go to this post for a free tutorial for another card made with Regarding Dahlias and an opportunity to purchase a Card Making Kit with Tutorials or just the Tutorials!

Dahlias and Dancing Butterflies

Regarding Dahlias and Bitty Butterly

“Dahlias and dancing butterflies.”

I received this pretty card in a convention swap from Traci R. Khan. I love the color combo! Just looking at this card gives me visions of fields of colorful Dahlias swaying in a gentle breeze with dancing butterflies! I also like how she used 1 small rhinestone and 1 larger rhinestone on the Bitty Butterflies for their body versus using 3 small rhinestones. Sometimes it really is in the little details…as much as I hate details! For a free tutorial using this set and the opportunity to purchase additional tutorials and a card kit see this post!

Hello, You With a Dahlia in Blue

Regarding Dahlias

“Hello, You With a Dahlia in Blue.”

I received this card in a convention swap. Love, love, love! Simple and wow! There is no identifying info on the back of the card, so if this is your creation let me know and I will update this post to give you credit! Did you know that with all the different varieties of Dahlias in the world there really isn’t a blue Dahlia? A blue Dahlia has never been produced! There are a few lavender Dahlias that have a “hint” of blue. So, in the meantime, while we wait for one to be produced, I will be happily creating blue Dahlias like this one with ink and paper! Go to this post for a free tutorial for another card made with Regarding Dahlias and an opportunity to purchase a Card Making Kit with Tutorials or just the Tutorials!

Dahlias In Every Color

Regarding Dahlias in Sweater Weather

“Sweater weather and Dahlias in every color”

Dahlias are breathtakingly beautiful and come in every color imaginable! With the colors of Fall warming the hillsides and the chill of sweater weather in the air, I wanted to show the versatility of this awesome set! The dahlia is large…which means it doesn’t take a lot of stamping and the sentiments of “hi” and “hello, you” make it perfect for those “just because” cards. Regarding Dahlias also pairs well with Gorgeous Grunge which is my personal favorite stamp set right now! As you can see, Regarding Dahlias transitions well into the season of Fall! Timeless Talk Reminiscent of Simpler Times

I loved Ernestine played by Lily Tomlin! I thought she was hilarious! Ernestine may have frustrated a few folks in her day, but at least she was human! We now have to deal with computerized calls and voices, truncated answering systems, etc. Usually by the time I get to #3 or #4 my eyes have started to glaze over and I find myself in a Zombie-like trance of epic proportions! As it dawns on me that I need to make a decision and I have no clue what my choices are I shudder out of my trance and frantically hang up the phone! Then the irritation sets in! I mutter and grumble to myself about how ridiculously difficult it is to reach a real person. In those moments Ernestine is a real heroine!
This swap card received at convention (no identifying info on the back of card to give credit to the creator) brings back those memories of watching Ernestine and chuckling at her antics. I love the old fashioned rotary dial phone. The card is very simple – but that is perfect as this phone is a depiction of simpler times! Sometimes I find myself wondering why it is that we complicate our conveniences

Sweet Baby Banner

Build a Banner DIY Stampin' Up!

Last week was a busy week making cupcakes and converting my Sweet 16 banner (here) into a Sweet Baby Banner (above) and all the other final touches and plans for my great niece’s baby shower!

Originally I had not planned on making cupcakes. Then I checked on prices; $22 per dozen! I was dumbfounded! I decided to pay to have the sandwiches made at our Hy-Vee deli (2 dozen sandwiches were slightly more than a dozen cupcakes!) and make my own cupcakes. My first 3 batches of cupcakes went without a hitch and were perfect! My white cupcakes were a nightmare! The cupcakes came up out of the liners and covered the whole pan looking more like a cake! I reviewed the recipe thinking maybe they were supposed to be made in the jumbo cupcake pans and noticed that I had “blush” used too much butter. Okay, no big deal, plenty of time to make another batch! Batch number two…same result! So, I don’t think I will use that recipe again! They taste great…but I want the tops to be pretty! I had to be creative and use them after all that trouble, though, so I cut the tops off and frosted over the rough edges. Not as pretty as the other cupcakes but I am pretty sure that my 48 cupcakes (disaster included) did not cost me as much as it would have to buy one dozen cupcakes! And, by the way, if anyone has a good recipe for white cupcakes from scratch; I am looking for one!

Happy Flowers

Happy Flowers Stampin' Up!

“Happy flowers in disguise!”

I was totally captivated by this convention swap card stamped by Liz (last name unreadable). I loved the color combo and the layout but for the life of me I could not identify the stamp set immediately! When I finally identified it, I groaned audibly. I had not felt compelled to get this hostess stamp set, Happy Flowers, until that moment! Don’t you just hate that when it happens to you! It is now on my wish list. I guess when I saw the name of the set…it limited my creativity on some level to look beyond flowers and see what else was there! Take for instance the image stamped in Smokey Slate; I am now looking at that image and seeing a gorgeous bird! Inked with a marker one could eliminate the tail feathers completely and just have the wings. Each element of this stamp set is conducive to creating some really fabulous backgrounds! Even the flower stem if colored with a marker would make a great bird in flight!

Gently Falling

Stampin' Up!

“Spring or Fall?”

I am always torn between Spring and Fall when it comes to favorite seasons! I look forward to Spring because Iowa Winters can be long, cold, and snowy! I love the bright green of spring! However, Fall is a season that is full of warm bursts of bright colors that take the chill out of the air on sunny days! We went to the apple orchards in Gays Mills, WI this weekend and the trees are turning! The weather this week will be perfect for creating a brilliant display on the bluffs! The bluffs in Marquette, IA were a perfect blend of green, red, orange and gold trees nestled together up above the quaint buildings along the highway. I wish we had stopped to take a picture! I know that most people like to go enjoy the view when the leaves are at their peek…but I like them best when there is still some green. Maybe it’s because this is the part of Fall that I don’t want to ever end! The gorgeous 70 degree days with no humidity and cool nights that are perfect for sleeping! Sigh. Anyway – this little 3×3 convention swap I received is a lovely card for this time of year and easily converted into a full size card! No credits on the card…so if it is yours…let me know and credit will be duly given!
